12 clues + 3.5 hours + 5 miles + 1 accidental bus trip = the Great Urban Race through downtown San Diego!

Last weekend, Team Wonder Twins and Team MindBlitz joined forces to take on 130 other costumed duos in a race to the finish line. Can you find the world’s first outdoor elevator or a super-sized blowup of Albert Eisenstaedt’s most famous photo? Relying on nothing but our feet, buses, trolleys, and any friends who happened to be home and near a computer, we:

  • scoured the trees behind Old Town State Park for a woman guarding LEGOs
  • convinced a little girl to play guitar for us
  • aced a relay through a wooded section of Balboa Park with apples on our heads
  • tracked down magician Jimmy Talksalot at Seaport Village
  • came in 89th place in a photo finish with Jenny and Jeremy!

My Wonder Twin teammate Chelsea was so excited by the experience that we’re already registered for the San Francisco race on May 3rd. I can offer a couch to sleep on, a poorly cooked breakfast, and good times had by all to anyone else who wants to join us for next year’s race:

This weekend is a bit more tame, filled with packing up boxes and saying final goodbyes before making the 450-mile move to northern California next Saturday.
